Gracie Key Senior 2018

Miss Gracie Key, Senior 2018, will be graduating June 2018; She is very active in the North Texas Area competing in NTHSRA Rodeos as well as FFA and very successful showing pigs at the big stock shows in Texas.

She plans to attend OSU and majoring in animal science and possibly pre vet as her interest is in Equine Reproduction..

Gracie has been very successful in the rodeo arena, qualifying for Region 3 Finals in Pole Bending and NTHSRA in Barrel Racing.  She also enjoys roping at the local youth rodeos.

Gracie is also top 3 in her class and is an active member of The National Honor Society.  Gracie is also loves Texas FFA and is an active chapter member and serves as Secretary.

Gracie also competes in FFA in speaking and judging events, she was 5th high individual in horse judging and recently placed 3rd high at a large competition.

I have been so happy to have Gracie represent Jo H Photography this past year as Senior Rep and can't wait to see what her future holds.

Horses in Black

Every month I work on a new project on something that I am not very strong in so that I can learn to become stronger as a photographer and handle any job that may be coming my way.

This next month I wanted to work on Horses with a black background, I have around 8 horses lined up to work on this.  After my session this morning we did capture a couple of the horses that just won AQHA Level I Gold and Silver to get me started.

This is a technique that is greek to me, I reached out to a couple photographers and as you photographers know there is not much you’ll get in the way of help from your local competitition.  One was kind enough to answer and say I am on the right track, at this point I know it’s working on my photoshop more and more.  

Having the horse set up in a good post is HUGE to capturing a great image for your client.

Whatever your weakness make sure you work on it to make it your strengt.

Lindsey Behring

I have known Lindsey for a few years from the barrel racing world.  She joined the Jo H Photography sponsor "Banner" team in 2018 and I'm excited to have the opportunity to have her represent my business

Lindsey is currently a Junior in Flower Mound, Texas.  She competes in High School Rodeos which includes Barrel racing and Pole Bending.  She has been a member of The North Texas High School Rodeo Association for three years and enjoys competing there against other athletes her age.

Lindsey is happy to have sponsors like Cactus Rose Tack, NRS Trailers and Jo H Photography.

Her future plans has her competing in college rodeos as well as training horses in the future for the public.

Friday Night Lights

Friday Night (Good Friday) I had the pleasure of being asked to photograph an evening wedding.  Weddings just make you nervous right off the bat when your asked to photograph, this being an evening wedding I was extra nervous.

I originally told the bride to be that I had never done this type of photography but would be happy to work on it and show her what I as able to do and she could let me know if she wanted me to photograph. That was a month ago and the results of that practice led me to her Friday Night ceremony.

An Elopment ceremony it is called, very small,very personal and I was so happy to be there.  The result is this photo that I walked away very happy with and the Bride loved and was anxious to share.

Friday Night Lights may be something I do a little more in the future.

Backgrounds are important

This morning I had the pleasure of capturing Morgan and Alex maternity session; their baby girl is due the first of May and we were blessed with a beautiful location to capture memories for them.

I tell everyone that contacts me about portraits that the background is such a huge factor to me in making their photos stand out.

We were blessed with the beautiful surroundings of The Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, you do have to pay a fee to photograph in the gardens, the money they raise from the photography fees is to help with the upkeep of the gardens.  money well spent if you ask me because I was in Awe of the beauty.  We only photographed in 2 of the Gardens, the South Garden and Japanese Garden, but 2 hours later we walked out of their with enough photos that the family will be looking for awhile trying to decide what to choose.

When photographing remember to look and do research on your background so you can capture the most amazing photos for the clients.  Their paying hard earned money and should not walk away unhappy

Cowgirls at work

I gave myself a really good self project thats going to keep me busy the rest of March and April.  I am calling it Cowgirls at Work.  I wanted to focus on the hard working women out there that hold down jobs, raise families, compete and have to do the work around the farm/ranch.

Today I met up with two ladies (Top) Jessica Logan with Cowgirl Recon getting fence out and put up to keep some of the cattle out of her Recon Training area.  This lady is not afraid of hard work, I think i would of been looking around for someone to help me unload all that fence, but she just jumped up there and took care of business.

Bottom Photo:  Sarah Jo Salter is a local trainer and sells horses on consignment as well as gives riding lessons.  She has an amazing family and the cutest little boys that I hope will be part of my Tiny Cowboy Tiny Cowgirl model Call in a few months.  She works so hard to keep her customers happy and even more important her family.

This project is just in day 2 and I've photographed 3 different ladies and i am enjoying it so much already.  I can't wait to get to the last day so I can wrap up and start working on the video I am putting together and put a book together as well.

Give yourself those self projects, make time for it so you can enjoy your time with strangers, and hopefully make life long friends along the way

1D champion

This past Saturday in Weatherford Texas I witnessed and photographed 368 of the best athletes around make a run for the $2,000 added money, trying to earn points for BBR world and some of the WPRA ladies even were there to win some money to make it back to the NFR.

Nina topped the field with the winning time of 16.5 with a flawless run.  She’s been on a roll racking up wins and money all over the state.  Out of Stephenville Texas Nisa is one hard working lady that is very well respected.

Find her on facebook if your looking for a trainer, and the next race at PCA (Parker County Arena) will be April 21, another $2,000 up for grabs and another great race will happen that day.  This facility draws them in from all over.
